Confectionery Baking
Purpose of this programme
The Home Bakers Course is offered by Kenako Jwale Skills in partnership with Tee Gee Delights.
Students will be tutored by a Granny Kale a Master Baker of Tee Gee Delights and they will be taught how to bake and decorate cupcakes, cakes and biscuits.
Objectives of the Baking course is to offer a baking course to the impoverished, unemployed and unskilled youth in the different communities of South Africa.
The facilitator will teach them to bake and decorate confidently and earn an income from home.
The Baker after completing this course, is self-employed and able to create employment which will benefit many people in their home, family and community.
Why Baking:
Baking from home provides a sustainable income with low overheads.
The more effort the Home Baker makes, the greater the rewards.
With experience and decorating techniques the product value changes. This allows the Home Baker to make a greater profit.
Low start up costs with easily acquired baking products.
An oven and basic ingredients can transform a kitchen into an industrious business.
Many opportunities and occasions in their community to sell baked treats to family, neighbors, local shops, schools & community events.
A formal education is not required to learn how to bake. Our basic course will be sufficient to generate an income.
Marketing:
Community, local general dealers, informal shops and home industries.
Supply baked treats for many occasions and functions to their community.
Increase in orders results in employment opportunities for others in the community.
Successful home bakers have the confidence and knowledge to teach others and to open a bakery in their community.
Products will be baking:
- Cakes
- Cupcakes
- Biscuits
- Pastries
- Rolls
Course Outcomes:
- Theoretical and hands-on practical tutoring of baking.
- Planning, preparation, hygiene and safety.
- Costing, selling and budgeting.
- How to market products in the community.
- Packaging & presentation of baked treats.
- Bake to sell – students bake and sell products.
Course Duration:
- 12 weeks course
- 20 students per class
- Friday and Saturday: 9.00am -12.00am
- Entrepreneurial Development (compulsory and included with the course).
Prerequisite:
Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age or over at the starting date of the course.
